Capturing Timeless, Authentic Family Moments in Calgary

A family photo session isn’t just about documenting one stage of life, it’s about preserving the people and relationships that matter most, beautifully and intentionally. As your Calgary family photographer, I create relaxed, authentic family portraits that feel like you! Genuine connection, real laughter, and the little in‑between moments you’ll want to remember for years to come.

From your first consultation to the final delivery of your images, every detail is tailored to your family’s style and needs. Instead of images that live on a hard drive, you’ll have finished printed images designed for your home such as framed wall art and heirloom albums made to be held, displayed, and passed down for generations.

Which type of photography session is right for your family?

OUTDOOR Family Photo Sessions

Outdoor family sessions are ideal if you’re drawn to a more spontaneous, natural feel in your images. While I still guide you into flattering, naturally posed portraits, an outdoor setting in and around Calgary gives everyone room to move, explore, and play. This freedom often results in more unscripted, candid moments in your family photos—especially if you’re bringing young children or including a beloved family pet. If you love the idea of playful images with movement, laughter, and changing seasons as your backdrop, an outdoor Calgary family session is a beautiful choice.

STUDIO Family Photo Sessions

A family studio session is the perfect option if you’re dreaming of timeless, naturally posed portraits without the unpredictability of weather or outdoor distractions. For couples and parents seeking polished, classic images, my Calgary studio at Hudson Lofts offers a calm, controlled environment where everyone—especially little ones—can relax. Together we’ll select neutral-toned backdrops that complement your wardrobe and home décor, ensuring your finished artwork looks perfectly at home on your walls. Say goodbye to concerns about rain, snow, or wind and enjoy a stress-free session designed to capture your family at their very best.

What’s included in a family portrait session?

Styling + Concept Consultation

My goal is for every family to experience a personalized Calgary family photography session and to receive photographs that feel exactly like what you envisioned. To better understand your goals for the session, we’ll begin with a pre‑session styling and concept consultation where we talk through your vision and I offer suggestions based on how you’d love to see your final images displayed.

During the consultation we’ll discuss location options, the overall style of your session, and wardrobe choices so we can capture you as your authentic selves. We’ll also talk about what you’d like to do with the final images—whether that’s custom wall art for a particular room or hallway, or a keepsake album for your coffee table. This conversation helps me get to know your family and plan a session that’s thoughtfully tailored just for you.

The Photo Shoot

With 15 years of experience photographing family portraits and working with small children, I’m prepared for the unexpected and know how to keep your session efficient, relaxed, and fun. Your family photography session is meant to be a joyful time together, not something you’re dreading. I’ll guide you every step of the way so you can feel confident you’re in good hands. Whether you’ve chosen an outdoor family photo session or a family photo shoot in studio, we’ll transform fleeting moments into tangible memories your family will cherish for years to come.

Viewing and Ordering Appointment

Approximately two weeks after your session, you’ll return to my Calgary portrait studio for your personal viewing and ordering appointment which is the most exciting part for many families. Your best images will be projected onto a large 70” 4K screen so you can see every detail clearly, and then we’ll review them together so you can select your favourites and decide how many images you’d like to purchase.

You’ll also have the opportunity to see and touch the full range of products my studio offers, from framed wall art to heirloom albums and digital collections. I encourage all family members who participated in the session to attend this appointment, as the choices you make here will shape the artwork that graces your home for years to come.

Delivery of Your Images

All purchased products are typically ready within four weeks of your order being placed. Any digital files you’ve purchased will be delivered via secure direct download. Many families return year after year, knowing how quickly their children are growing and how valuable it is to see that growth documented through professional photographic artwork.

Whenever you come back for new sessions, I do my best to create images that coordinate with what we’ve already created together, so your family’s portraits feel fresh and evolving while still looking cohesive as your collection grows.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a family photography session last?

Family sessions typically run 60 to 90 minutes, depending on the age of your children and how many family members are taking part. This gives us time for little breaks, games, and space for your child to warm up to the environment without feeling pressured. For larger family groups, this extra time also allows me to photograph your whole family together, smaller groupings, and individual portraits of the children.

What if it rains or snows on the day of our outdoor family photography session?

Calgary weather can be unpredictable, so I always keep a close eye on the forecast. We’ll wait until about 24 hours before your session to make a final call. If rain, heavy wind, snow, or temperatures below -10°C are expected, I’ll contact you the morning of your session to confirm whether we’ll move forward or reschedule. There is no fee to reschedule due to weather, and I’ll always do my best to rebook your session within about 14 days, weather and schedule permitting.

What should we wear to our family photo shoot?

Once your session is booked, we’ll schedule time to discuss the overall style of your session, which gives you a clear starting point for choosing outfits. I’ll help you select clothing that suits your family and the type of images you’re hoping for—whether we’re shooting in studio or outdoors. You’ll also receive a Styling Guide with suggested colour palettes and tips for dressing each family member.

My photography blog is also a great resource when planning and preparing for your session. As a general rule, I always tell clients that neutral tones in varying shades create classic portraits that stand the test of time, so they’re often my favourite choice.

Will I receive all the images from my family session?

It’s important to me that you have the chance to view your images before making any final decisions. You only purchase the images you truly love. At your viewing and ordering appointment, you’ll see the best photos from your session and decide how many you’d like to purchase along with which artwork options (wall art, albums, or matted print collections) are the best fit for your home and family.

What kind of products do you offer?

All products offered in the studio are produced by some of the best professional print labs in the world, using the highest‑grade papers, inks, and printing methods available today. My product line‑up includes frameless mounted prints, handcrafted heirloom albums, framed wall portraits, acrylic mounts, and beautifully matted prints. Whatever you choose will be designed to make a statement in your home and stand the test of time.

How do we book a photography session with you?

Step 1: Get in Touch

Contact the studio so I can answer any additional questions you may have and confirm availability. All of my family portrait sessions are tailored to your family and designed to feel less like a photoshoot and more like your family’s best day together. I handle every detail so you can relax and enjoy the experience, resulting in a gallery of joy‑filled moments you’ll actually enjoy creating.

Step 2:‍ Select a Session Date

I accept bookings up to 9 months in advance, so it’s never too early to reserve your session—especially if you have a specific time of year or weekend in mind. I offer a limited number of weekend dates for outdoor sessions from May through October, so the sooner we connect, the more options you’ll have.

Step 3: Secure your Family Session

To officially reserve your date, a $400 creative fee and signed booking contract are required. Once I’ve answered your questions, reviewed session details and image collection pricing with you, I’ll send over a booking contract along with a secure link to pay your creative fee. After both have been received, your session is confirmed and we can begin planning all the details.
