A definite perk of my job is being able to meet and photograph active, fun-loving families like the family below. I met this incredible family back in 2014 when they moved to Calgary from Houston. Michele and I connected instantly, meeting at a coffee and conversation held at Clear Water Academy where our children attended school. I have watched her family grow over the years and now her beautiful family has six charismatic, charming and very talented children spanning from the age of three to almost fifteen. I have had the privilege of photographing some of her children in studio over the years and was very saddened to hear that due to the current pandemic and a huge hit to the oil sector in Alberta, Michele and her family will be heading back to Houston.

When Michele received the news, she told me that she had always wanted to have outdoor family photos taken of their entire family in the mountains before leaving Calgary. I had the perfect spot in mind where I could take some updated family photos of her family, with mountain views as the perfect backdrop. Quarry Lake Park in Canmore, Alberta is a quick one-hour drive from the west end of Calgary and is an excellent outdoor location for creating stunning family portraits. When a family is looking to get a series of candid styled photos, heading to the mountains for a mini-adventure always does the trick. While we trek through the small trails and trees to get to the perfect portrait location, this is when I can capture those joyful and authentic candid photos that so many families love!

I had a wonderful time with this family, exploring Canmore together while taking photos of them among the beautiful mountain scenery. From Quarry Lake Park we headed down Rundle Drive and stopped so I could photograph them near the Bow River! Before wrapping up our session, we headed to Main Street for an ice cream at The Scoopin’ Moose that the children thoroughly enjoyed! It was truly was perfect afternoon with shared memories that will last a lifetime! 

With the current pandemic, so many of us photographers have taken to outdoor portrait sessions which allows us the opportunity to still photograph special moments for our clients and maintain physical distancing guidelines.
